Gary Wayne Cooper, son of Lois New Cooper of Science Hill and the late Carl Cooper Sr. was born on February 19, 1950 and departed this life on Friday, November 30, 2001 at the age of 51 years.

He was employed at General Electric, a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Southside Church of God of Prophecy.

He is survived by his mother; two brothers Carl and his wife Linda Cooper Jr. of Somerset, David and his wife Darlene Cooper of Somerset; a sister Brenda Cooper of Somerset; three nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl Cooper Sr.

He leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn his passing.

Nellie Eliza Barringer Ikerd

August 10, 1907 - November 29, 2001

Nellie Eliza Barringer Ikerd, daughter of the late H. Belton and Dorothy Jasey MacKenzie Barringer, was born on August 10, 1907 in Newton, N. C. and departed this life on Thursday, November 29, 2001 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital having attained the age of 94 years.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Frank Heller Ikerd on July 2, 1926, he preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons Frank and his wife Winnie Ikerd Jr., Bobby clarence and his wife Rita Ikerd, Jerry Shelton and his wife Brenda Ikerd all of Somerset, Kentucky.; one brother Chad Barringer of Maiden, North Carolina.; six grandchildren Frank Ikerd III, Jasie Mulloy, Rick Ikerd, Tim Ikerd, Amy Girdler, Lisa Halloran and Chip Ikerd; eleven great grandchildren Leslie, Emily, Frank IV, Sarah, Lindsey, Sydney, Mackenzie, Corey, Jace, Rylon and Hunter.

Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by nine brothers Sinclair, Russell, Robert, Alton, Smith, John, Phil, Billy, and George Barringer; one sister Dorothy Barringer.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Somerset Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a kind person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves a host of relatives, friends and church family who mourn her passing.

Mr. Billy G. Eastham, son of the late James and Stella Cook Eastham, was born at Dewitt Co. Illinois on November 27, 1925 and departed this life in Somerset, at Sunrise Manor on November 24, 2001 having attained the age of 75 years.

Survivors include a brother Carlos Eastham of Someset; a nephew Craig Eastham; a niece Carla Yeary both of Somerset.

Zora Ann (Smiley) Winstead, 100, of Eubank KY passed away November 24, 2001 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.

She was born March 17, 1901 to the late Harlan and Nannie (Robbins) Smiley. She was a homemaker and member of the Union Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son Ernest and (Hettie) Winstead; five grandchildren Oris Winstead, James Lee Winstead, Dianna Winstead, Mark Winstead, Melissa Morrison; three great grandchildren Sherry Daws, Ricky and Clint Winstead; one great-great grandchild Loressa Daws; one daughter in law, Flossie Long, Science Hill and one sister in law Maggie Smiley, Denver, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Carter Winstead whom she married on September 3, 1922 and passed away on July 21, 1961; her parents; one son James Edward Winstead; one brother Merle Smiley and one sister Flonnie Cook.

Evona (Hall) Girdler Howell, 88, Clifty Road Somerset passed away at Somerset Nursing & Rehab Facility .

Evona (Hall) Girdler Howell was born on June 8, 1913 a daughter of  the late Harvey and Lizzie Hall. She was a homemaker and member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andy Howell; her parents; six brothers; and one sister.

Elalah Gladys (Godby) Pond, 78, Hogue - Bethelridge Road passed away Wednesday November 14, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born January 24, 1923 a daughter of Ephra Godby and Cora (Adams) Godby. She was a Homemaker and a member of the Sunrise Baptist Church.

She is survived by seven sons, Donald Gene Pond, Pine Knot, Ky., David Paul Pond, Cincinnati, Ohio, Daniel Richard Pond, Hazel, Ky., Paul Edward Pond, Eubank, Ky., Dennis James Pond and Douglas Ephra Pond, both of Science Hill; two daughters, Linda Sue Etters and Jennifer Godby both of Science Hill; one brother Roe Godby, Indiana; three sisters, Telitha Bays, Science Hill, Cloda Bays, Florida, and Cloa Ottinger, Illinois; 29 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul Pond; one brother, Morris Godby; one sister Elizabeth Lashbrook

Mrs. Bannie Lee Renaker

Mrs. Bannie Lee Renaker, 85, Burnetta Community, passed away Sunday November 11, 2001 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born August 27, 1916, a daughter of the late Nicholas M. Garner and Lula Francis (Luttrell). She was a retired teacher from Nancy Elementary School. She received her Masterís Degree in Major Elementary Education from Eastern Kentucky University, taught 31 years at Nancy Elementary, she was in the 1st graduating class of Nancy High School, a member of Burnetta Baptist Church and Past President of WMU and Adult Womenís Sunday School teacher at Burnetta Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Dean Gossett and Heulet Lee and (Ginger) Renaker and Howard Nicholas And (Margie) Renaker all of Nancy; one brother. Joseph M. Garner, Germantown, Ohio; one sister Maxine Pyles, Dayton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Michelle Bergthold, Suzanne Gossett, Bradley Lee Perkins, Aaron Paul Renaker, Shannon Caudille, Gail Garrison and Benjamin Caudille and nine great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her 1st husband John Gossett; and her 2nd husband Heulet N. Renaker; two brothers, William "Bill" and Eugene Paul Garner; two sisters Lola Turpin and Mary Roberts.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday November 15, 2001 at Burnetta Baptist Church with Brother J.S. New officiating. Burial will be in the Chesterview Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday November 14, 2001 at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Eutos, VA. and Timothy Earl and (Stacey) Cornett, Kings Mt, Ky.; one brother Willard Hall, Kings Mt, Ky.; one sister, Bertha Hall, Science Hill, Ky. four grandchildren, Hannah & Tyler Cornett, Dakota and Arianna Hall.

Jewell (Sweet) Baugh Gossett, 76, East Frog Hollow Road, passed away Saturday November 10, 2001 at the Russell County Hospital.

She was born December 28, 1924, a daughter of the late William Jasper Sweet and Bertha (Waddle) Sweet. She was a homemaker and a member of the Science Hill United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn Gossett; three sons, William and (Pat) Baugh, Jerry and (Geneva) Baugh and Jackie and (Debbie Baugh all of Somerset; one daughter, Wanda and (Charles) Thomas, Jamestown, Ky.; one sister, Jarett Wesley, Harrison, Ohio; three step sons, Clayton Baugh, Cincinnati, Ohio, Darrell Gossett and Donnie Gossett both of Somerset, Ky.; four step daughters, Eva Wesley, Michigan, Della Tucker, Dolly Crabtree, both of Somerset, Ky. and Ruby and (Lawrence) Godby, Cincinnati, Ohio.; several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her 1st husband, Charlie Baugh; her 2nd husband, Lee Baugh; one son, Charles Edgar Baugh, four 1/2 brothers, Boyd, Ottis, Marshall and Walter; seven 1/2 sisters, Ethel, Edna, Nettie, Ruth, Mettie, Katherine and Mae.

Robert Silas Stogsdill, the son of Isabel Poynter Stogsdill and the late Harry Estel Stogsdill was born in Pulaski County on May 9, 1935 and departed this life on Wednesday November 7, 2001 having attained the age of 66 years.

Survivors include his mother; 3 sons Robert Estel (and Shirley) Stogsdill of Edinburgh, Indiana., Jerry (and Tammy) Stogsdill of Greenwood, Indiana., Mike (and Teresa) Stogsdill of Indianapolis, Indiana.; 3 daughters Diane (and Mauer) Ceephus of Salem, Ohio., Carolyn (and Colin) Bolt of Indianapolis, Indiana, Donna Stogsdill of Beech Grove, Ky.; one brother Harry Stogsdill Jr. of Middletown, Ohio.; three sisters Catherine Walters of Middletown, Ohio, Mary Jewell Chaney of Somerset, Ky., Dixana "Dixie" Avera of Leesburg, Virginia; 17 grandchildren and other relatives.

Other than his father he was preceded in death by 2 brothers Harold Stogsdill and Fred James Stogsdill.

Robert was a retired truck driver and adhered to the Baptist Faith. He was a kind person who will be missed by all who knew him. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

Nina E. Bowser

Nina E. Bowser, daughter of the late Lon and Ocea Dillon Smith, was born at St. Albans, West Virginia on June 25, 1918 and departed this life on November 1, 2001 having attained the age of 83 years.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Fred L. Bowser who preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son Fred (and Gail) Bowser of Waynesburg, Ky.; one brother Orville Smith of St. Albans, West Virginia; seven grandchildren Evelyn Ann Spencer, Lawrence Spencer III, Mary Spencer, April Dawn Spencer, Betty Fay Prater, Fred Bowser Jr. and Katherine Jean Biliter and fifteen great grandchildren.

Other than her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother Wallace Smith; two sisters Grace Smith and Margaret Muriel McDowell.

She was a Homemaker and adhered to the Baptist faith. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family and leaves a host of relatives who mourn her passing.

James Thomas " Tommy" Whitaker

November 4, 1953 - October 31, 2001

James Thomas " Tommy" Whitaker the son of Hershal and Irene Slavey Whitaker, was born at Somerset on November 4, 1953 and departed this life on October 31, 2001 having attained the age of 47 years.

Other than his parents, he is also survived by one son Justin Whitaker of Johnson City, Texas; two sisters Carolyn Antonio of Alvin, Texas and Dianna (and Bobby) Lyons of Somerset, Ky.; three nephews Jeremy (and Brandi) Lyons, Joseph (and Kristin) Lyons and Anthony Antonio; one niece Jessica Lyons; one great niece Ashtyn Lyons; one great nephew; Orion Lyons and host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends.

Tommy was a construction superintendent for the Gilbaine Construction Co. and he was a member of the McKinney Baptist Church.

He was a kind person and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves numerous, family and friends who mourn his passing.

Mr. Louvonnia "Bonnie" Whitaker

March 13, 1932 - October 31, 2001

Mr. Louvonnia "Bonnie Whitaker, 69, Hwy. 1676 passed away Wednesday October 31, 200 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born March 13, 1932, in the Ano Community, a son of the late William Harvey Whitaker and Laura (Dugger) Whitaker. He was co-owner of Whitaker Cycle Sales, a former heavy equipment operator for Ikerd & Bandy Coal Company, Former owner of Whitaker Lumber Company and a musician. He attended the Ano Grade School, Mt. Victory High School and was a member of the Clifty Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Mayfield) Whitaker whom he married on October 11, 1950 in Ano, Kentucky; one son, Johnny Michael and (Sheila) Whitaker, Somerset, Ky.; two daughters, Mary Lou and (Johnny) Mink and Donna Kaye and (Tommy ) Russell, both of Somerset, Ky.; two brothers, Darwin and (Sylvia) Whitaker, Greenwood, In. and Lee and (Gladys) Whitaker, Hopkinsville, Ky.; two sisters, Vella Whitaker, Somerset, Ky. and Irene Whitis, Indianapolis, In.; eight grandchildren, James Walter Perkins III, Jana Rae and (Scott) Stieff, Jared Michael Whitaker, Stefanie Lynn Whitaker, Lesley Erin Russell, Morgan Leigh Russell, Shelby Linn Russell and Seth Russell; three great-grandchildren, Molly Elizabeth Perkins, Megan Elizabeth Perkins and Jaelyn Rae Stieff.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Lawrence Whitaker.
